How do I know if I should start seeing a psychologist?
Starting a process of psychotherapy is a step that involves a lot of courage and commitment to our mental health, our well-being, and that of the people around us.
Whatever your needs are, at Integria Psychology we are a team of psychologists in Malaga who can help you in different offices in the capital and the province, such as our psychologists’ office in Fuengirola, as well as online wherever you are.
How does it work go to therapy?
Maybe this is the first time you are considering going to see a psychologist. It may be that you have already had some previous experience and it is not something new for you. In any case, it is important to know that all psychologists work in different ways, although we always respect the intervention processes common to all currents, as well as the professional code of ethics.
The hardest step is sending that first message or making that first call.
Once you do, the first thing we will do is to find a time when we can call you for about 30 minutes to get to know each other and talk more about why you want to start therapy.
This space is completely free and without any kind of commitment, as we know that it is important to know if you 'connect' with the person who is going to be your psychologist.
Once we start the sessions, either face-to-face or online, the first appointments will be to jointly assess the needs and problems that you bring to the consultation.
This usually takes between 2 or 3 sessions, depending on each person, as we bring different stories and experiences, and we need more or less time to be able to share our experiences.
Once the assessment has been done, together we will decide where to start with your therapy process and with what, if there are several things we need to address.
Sometimes it will be possible to set a number of sessions to work on your needs. However, it is important for you to know that sometimes this is very difficult, as, with certain issues, it is more important to respect your rhythms and limits.
Many mental health professionals have been providing online therapy or telepsychology for years. Since the pandemic in 2020, this means of care has increased enormously, initially due to the circumstances of confinement and, subsequently, due to the advantages and convenience it offers.
Even with the advantages and positive results that online therapy is demonstrating, we always study the case and assess whether it is appropriate to intervene in this way.
If you want to know more about what online therapy is like, we explain it on our services page.
We know that starting to see a psychologist is not easy.
There is a fear of opening up, of telling our secrets and fears, our thoughts and problems.
We also have doubts about whether the person in front of us is really a professional, whether he/she is really interested in my story and will be there for me.
In view of this, we encourage you to take the step to get to know us and assess for yourself our professionalism, involvement, and commitment to you, your mental health, your well-being, and that of the people around you.
